This wrap spring clutch is a locking mechanism for a handler/manipulator in a semiconductor test system robot. The unreliability of a multiple piece clutch did not give the customer a feeling of security.
The customer supplied us with the dimensions; i.e. I.D., O.D., size and number of coils, width of wire and direction of operation. The wire wrap spring clutch applications normally replace or retrofit an existing device. Because of the unique HELI-CAL Flexure and method of attachment, it becomes a single integrated unit, thereby reducing the number of parts to be inventoried and providing a more reliable clutch.
