The customer was producing a hand operated elevator. The elevator is used to load missiles and/or bombs onto the underside of aircraft wings. When the elevator is in position, it is released and must remain in position until the munitions are secured to the racks. The customer was unable to find a wire wrap wound clutch to function properly. After several failed attempts to make the clutch themselves, they found us. We were able to meet all their requirements.
The highest stress point in a wire wrap wound clutch is where the ends are turned ninety degrees to the normal wrap of the wire. When the HELI-CAL® Flexure is "machined" we not only don't bend the coil ninety degrees, but we are able to leave additional material in the radius of the stem which increases the strength and reduces the stress level even more. Helical was again able to solve a customer's application with a reliable HELI-CAL Flexure that also saved them production time in assembling their complete product.
