A manufacturer and designer of human sized puppets had a unique challenge of how to move the head of a large five (5) foot tall puppet. The position of the operator is approximately 75 degrees from the puppet's head. It was extremely important to have the head move in a fluid, life-like motion. Consequently, the mechanism joining the operator's controls to the head had to function smoothly, be constant velocity, and have no backlash.
Being able to provide the customer with a one piece U-joint reduced the installation and maintenance time. The customer called and discussed their requirements. When engineer talks to engineer it simplifies the design process. It was possible, within 4 weeks from the original contact, to design, supply a trial sample, and receive the first order. This led to another similar application on another puppet, only on the opposite end of the body.
