A company that produces "Vibration Monitoring Instrumentation for Rotating Machines" asked us to help them devise a unit that would act similar to an encoder. They wished to incorporate an incremental counting method into this unit. The customer was using a rubber type coupling and modifying it to use in measuring phase position and shaft speed.
By using a standard WAC25 coupling as a base, the 20 cogs
(18 degree steps) and the .25" wide slot for an absolute point were all combined into
a homogeneous piece of material. This is another example of the versatility of integrating
multiple pieces and operations into a HELI-CAL® Flexure.
This was accomplished in a relatively short period of time, only 3 months. The
coordination between the salesman, customer's engineer, and our application engineer
helped move this project along. There were four various samples provided to the customer
before they decided on a final configuration.
