GLASS - MANUFACTURER   

THE CHALLENGE:

A multinational glass manufacturer supplying vehicle and aircraft companies was having difficulty keeping their production equipment operating. The biggest concerns they were having were high maintenance costs and the need to replace the U-joint on an average of every 2.5 months. The necessity to exchange the U-joint caused down time and delay in manufacturing.  

THE SOLUTION:

The solution must allow for 23 degrees of angular misalignment and operate at 3600 RPM.

A sample U-joint was sent to the customer's engineer to become familiar with the HELI-CAL^® Flexure concept and to run a preliminary test. Being satisfied with the evaluation, the final design was shortened and used an integral clamp attachment. There are three different bore combinations. The customer commented it looks cleaner and saves them approximately ten thousand dollars annually.
