FLEXURE FACTS |
Because vibrations in a system this medical equipment company was manufacturing caused distortion between a camera and microscope, the customer required a torsionally stiff coupling. They had attempted to produce a flexible coupling themselves without success. They then went to a bellows type which operated O.K.; however, the cycle life was too short. The customer's engineer was looking for a lower priced coupling that would eliminate the vibration.
During the discussions between Helical's application engineer and the customer's design engineer, it was found the coupling was used in a vacuum; therefore, it could not be anodized or glass beaded. When the two engineers can converse, it expedites and aids in a better designed coupling to meet a particular application. A sample is supplied for the customer to test and evaluate on his own equipment. It also speeds up the process in obtaining the order, which, in this case was for a lower priced coupling that solved their vibration problem.
