FLEXURE FACTS |
In a hand positioning device the customer was using a plastic universal joint which broke apart. Higher temperature than normal was involved as it is heat sealing equipment that is being manufactured. The U-joint operated at 45 degrees in positioning a plate into the proper location. The material also must be electrically non-conductive.
With a Helical application engineer discussing the problem with the customer's design engineer, it was possible to save time in completing the development of the proposed U-joint. With good communications through the representative salesman, the final solution was completed; however, it took four different design variations and samples to satisfactorily pass the test and evaluation program.
