PANCAKE SPRING PERFORMS MULTIPLE FUNCTIONS
SANTA MARIA, CA., May 5, 2003 – Helical Products Company offers “machined” springs that are good examples of small, single piece, componentry. The pancake shaped compression spring in the picture holds a reflective mirror in a high wattage industrial laser machining application and also functions as a heat dissipating device for the mirror. High strength aluminum material was used because of its heat transfer characteristics and low cost. The spring is a curved beam machined from a single piece of material into the special configuration illustrated. The HELI-CAL® Flexure, as the curved beam is called, can be made to incorporate special design requirements, performance features or characteristics.
