Helical miniature coupling

SANTA MARIA, CA., May 7, 1998 -- This photo of a ladybug and "machined" flexible couplings and springs illustrates the trend toward subminiature mechanical component parts.

The flexible helix beam used in these products is machined from one piece of material into a specific configuration that can incorporate special design requirements, performance features or characteristics. Applications include deep space instruments such as the Mars Rover Sojourner, medical apparatus, furniture, oil field equipment, conveyors, missiles, etc. Sizes range from subminiature to OD's of three inches.
