FLEXIBLE COUPLING USABLE IN CONFINED QUARTERS

SANTA MARIA, CA., May 21, 1996 --

The flexible coupling shown in this drawing and picture utilizes the "HELI-CAL" Flexure concept, which involves precisely machining helical slots in the body of the coupling.

The resulting product can accommodate parallel, angular and skewed misalignments. This coupling, designed for use in restricted spaces, is configured with a split clamp at one end, facilitating the removal of a motor, for example, where axial movement is limited. Bores at both ends of the coupling shown are "Double D" shaped, which results in a positive drive when mated with shafts having two flats. Helical couplings are available in a variety of sizes and materials, including stainless steel, aluminum and Delrin.
