COUPLING PERFORMANCE CHARACTERISTICS TO ORDER
One-piece "flexures" with equal ODs and of identical material will exhibit different performance characteristics with the addition or subtraction of a single specification, such as coupling coil thickness, ID, or number of coils. The flexures shown here are identical in OD, ID, length and number of coils. They differ, however, in coil thickness. And that produces variations in torque, angularity (bending movement), parallel misalignment, torsional stiffness and compression spring rate. Changing a single specification can result in many different performance characteristics. In addition, characteristics do no always change in the same ration to each other. They may be linear, cube or square. Further, changing the material itself will yield even more performance variations. HELI-CAL Flexures, in the format of a coupling or u-joint, can compensate for angular, parallel, or skewed misalignment, and they can provide axial motion, constant velocity and smooth bearing loads. Helical says that the use of the Flexure increases design options. One may, for example, be able to choose from a round, threaded, or flat shaft. Or a gear may be integrated with a Flexure. Flexure bores may be round, threaded, or "D." Read more about the HELI-CAL Flexure
